Which would you find weirder:
A. Guy who asked for your phone number from one of your male friends and then started texting you out of the blue.
B. Male friend who gave a stranger your number.
This happened to me a few weeks ago. I began receiving texts from a nice guy whom I had met in passing. I didn't know him nor how he got my number until I ran into my friend who admitted to giving out my digits.
The one relieving aspect of figuring out how he got my number is that I didn't give it to him in a drunken stupor, which is what I assumed happened.

Didn't I just get the number of one of your male friends yesterday?
I promise not so start sending him skeezy texts, though.
But to the question at hand:
Let's say Nice Guy just missed getting your number and had no way of trying to run into you somewhere to get it. I don't think it's horrible that he asked your friend. But friend should have checked with you first, and Nice Guy should have called you and told you where he got your number. Not sent random texts without an explanation of where he got the number.
So everyone's in the wrong but you.
i agree with SM, but my first text back to nice guy would have asked where in hell he got my number.
anyway, no harm, no foul, but they both deserve a little slap on the head. not the backhand.
