Say It Don't Spray It

"I think... I'm in love with you," I mumbled into my phone, my champagne-warm face pressed against the cool back seat window of my friend's Land Rover.

Then she said something. It was muffled. She said something else. I blacked it out. And then it was morning. And I had no idea how she felt.

AWK.

It's all in how you spin it. I've pulled this move several times and the key is the next morning. You can either ignore it and hope it's never brought up, or acknowledge it in a joke - "haha, I was so wasted last night I said I loved you?! Silly me!" or you can actually pony up and be like, "hey um, I'm still in love with you. the hangover didn't cure it," and see what she says.

i dunno know. i'm not so good at these sorts of things.

Aw, SGL, I like your ideas. Way, way better than pretending it never happened.

This is why I've always waited until the other person said it first. Also weird: When my ex bf's mom started saying ILY to me. It took awhile for me to be able to say that one back.
