While it may be a topic deserving of a longer entry, here's my thought of the day: am I incredibly lazy in a fit society, or do most folks (particularly dudes) exaggerate the frequency of their workouts? It seems like a vast majority of the profiles I see are of "very active" men looking for "healthy and fit" ladies. These guys do crossfit, MMA, every ball sport known to man, kickboxing, weightlifting, surfing.... Tires me to think of it, especially when it's hard for me to muster the spirit to do some Zumba.
Are there other trends I haven't noticed yet? Guys, what do girls lie about with the most regularity?

I think that's just code for "not into fat girls."
No joke.
Also, as a not-particularly-short girl who likes tall boys, I noticed that they all exaggerate their height by an inch or two. As if I can't tell the difference between 6 foot 1 and 5 foot 11.
I was also going to say height! I've been out with a lot of guys who claim to be 5'10" but show up a whole lot closer to 5'7". Also - this isn't a lie, but a clear warning sign...if you can't spell "intelligent" correctly, you probably aren't. :)
See, I was under the impression that I was the only person in all of NYC not working out. Maybe that's not true other places, though.
I figure everyone on OkCupid is lying about the "what you can find me doing on a Friday night" question. Sitting at home, looking for someone to date. Stop fakin'.
Hello. And Bye.
I'm starting to think guys don't read this blog...
Guys DO read this blog. I think you just have to piss them off in order for them to get chatty. More on topic: yes, guys lie about their height. Often. I think girls lie about boob size. At least, they let their push-up bra do the lying for them. God Bless Victoria's Secret for making the padded bra socially acceptable!!!
I find that guys lie about height the most! It is sooo frustrating to go out on a date with a guy and discover that he barely reaches my shoulder. Granted I am pretty tall for a girl, but not that tall. You are not 5'8 dude, no one believes that.
We wouldn't lie about our height if women would give short guys a chance! I've certainly dated a lot of women who fall outside my ideal physical parameters. I thought the most important thing was sense of humor! P.S. Tom Cruise is 5'7".
Here is a truthfull answer from a guy: girls usually lie about their weight and the exercise thing with guys is the same with girls. Everyone mentions jogging as their hobby, but it they jogg like twice a year.
Yeah, I was reading some statistic, and guys do lie about their height.
Well, it's not just on online profiles, you know? Most people "lie" in their everyday lives: girls make up or use push-up bras, men pretend to be gentlemen in public when they just are porn-lovers in the evenings. Online profiles are just another way to show our pretenses. =)
Almost everybody lies about almost everything on online profiles for dating sites. They are trying to put out the best impression they can, so they are answering with what they think someone wants to see, not necessarily the truth. The truth worked just well enough to have them go onto a dating site. And they feel they can experiment with remaking themselves there.
They don't see it as a lie, they see it as the potential person they could be. And they don't feel guilty about it because they know that others are doing it too.

Hey Frenchie
I remember when plenty of fish come on the scene. I was introduced by a close friend who was having great success on that site, but he was freaked out by a girl he was talking to on the net and by phone.
He was persistently asking to meet her for a drink but she kept on knocking him back, which made him suspicious. Eventually, she reluctantly said yes.
When they met she was nothing like her picture or the age she claimed to be. I think he will think twice before meeting a girl off the net next time.
Women would probably fib about their weight. Men would fib about height and money. Here is some great advice if you do not like hiking never put that in your profile.=)
Girls absolutely lie about their body type. And not only that, they use old pictures from their Thin Period in their profile. Average weight difference? About 45 lbs between picture and real life. Even if the camera adds ten pounds, that's 35 pounds of beef I'm not expecting. Total Bait and Switch.
Hmm, good post. I'm a guy from Scotland, I've tried online dating a couple of times, with mixed results. I've only met a few girls this way, but I don't think any of them lied about anything in particular.
As for guys, well, I can only speak for myself but I've never intentionally lied on my profile, (I DO exercise 3-4 times a week!) and I've always used up-to-date photos.
I'm glad I found this website actually, it's very enjoyable to read, especially as I've started my own little blog (though it's more in the format of a book really, it's an ongoing real-life story).
Anyway, just my tuppence worth! I'll post the link to my blog if anyone's interested.
Cheers!
